Cost Effective Drilling

From humble beginnings we have witnessed our dreams and visions become a reality.

We have worked in The Gambia, West Africa to provide life-preserving water to over 80 communities.

The only way that the developed world could fully comprehend the fundamental challenges that communities in Africa have to struggle with, on a day to day basis, would be turn off all our taps in our homes and offices, empty our bottled water down the drain and walk 3 miles everyday to our nearest river, scoop up the unclean water from the riverbank into a water carrier and walk 3 miles back.

It must be true that for all of us, this would be incomprehensible, but it is a daily reality for millions of our fellow human beings across Africa.

Water is a basic, essential human right for survival.

Water means life—the essential element needed to sustain human existence.

Water means cleanliness—the foundation of good healthcare.

Water means food—the essential lifeblood of dependable agricultural production

Close to half of all people in developing countries are suffering at any given time from a health problem caused by water and sanitation deficits.

Water For Africa believes that providing boreholes are the fastest, most efficient and safest way to provide water to rural communities, they are not prone to spread disease and a hazard to children and livestock.

The borehole can not only provide water for health but can provide the village with a constant supply of water for irrigation to grow crops all year around, instead of relying on rainfall as a means to grow food for themselves and to sell.

Amounts

£3,500 for a borehole with a hand pump to provide water for a whole village community

£5,000 for a solar equipped borehole for agriculture and irrigation

We have achieved the provision of water to a wide range of communities across the whole of The Gambia, using a state of the art drilling machine and our own team of highly motivated, dedicated local individuals, trained and supported from the UK.

Our water projects have included:

  • Hospitals
  • Health centres
  • Schools
  • Village gardens and farms
  • Rural and urban communities

We have also worked to provide boreholes to a number of organisations and NGO’s, including: The World Bank, African Development Bank, Action Aid, United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation, NASFA a Food Security Organisation based in The Gambia, Rotary International and The Medical Research Council (MRC)
